As a borrower and according to the loan agreement, it is your responsibility to maintain insurance and provide proof of coverage on your collateral for the life of the loan.
What are the insurance requirements on my loan?
Auto Loans – You must carry comprehensive and collision coverage with deductibles not exceeding $1000. Proof must include the insurance company, policy number, coverage dates, vehicle description with VIN, deductibles, and show Deseret First as lienholder. ID cards are not sufficient as proof of coverage.
Mortgage Loans – You must carry enough dwelling coverage to meet your loan balance. The deductible should not exceed $1000, unless otherwise approved by the loan underwriting department. Proof must include the insurance company, policy number, coverage dates, covered property address, deductible, and show Deseret First as mortgagee.
Condo/Townhome Loans – You will need to provide proof of HOA and condo coverage at each policy renewal.

What if I don’t provide proof of insurance?
If you do not buy your own insurance or provide proof of full coverage as outlined in the loan agreement, we may buy Collateral Protection Insurance to protect the loan collateral. The cost of the insurance will be added to the loan and the loan payment may be increased. The insurance Deseret First buys will generally be more expensive and does not provide the liability insurance coverage that is required to legally operate the vehicle. We strongly urge you to purchase your own insurance. If you don’t currently have insurance, contact our in-house agency, Deseret Insurance Agency, for a free quote.
